Day 2: A Spiritual Journey to St. Anthony & St. Paul Monasteries

After breakfast, we leave Cairo and head towards Zafarana, on the Red Sea coast. This region is home to the oldest Christian monasteries in the world — a truly unique and peaceful place filled with spirituality.

 Driving time: approx. 2.5 hours

 Visit to St. Anthony Monastery

Founded in the 4th century, St. Anthony Monastery is the oldest Christian monastery in the world. Nestled at the foot of a mountain, this is where St. Anthony, the father of monasticism, lived in a cave.
For those who wish, it’s possible to climb the 1,000 steps to the cave for a breathtaking view of the desert, the mountains, and the Red Sea.

Inside the monastery, you’ll visit the ancient St. Anthony Church, dating back to the 6th century, beautifully decorated with Coptic wall paintings that offer a glimpse into early Christian art in Egypt.

Continue to St. Paul Monastery

After this unique spiritual experience, we continue through a scenic desert valley to St. Paul Monastery, the second oldest monastery in the world, built over the cave where St. Paul the Hermit, the first Christian hermit, lived.
The monastery impresses with its peaceful atmosphere, ancient churches, and well-preserved structures.

During your visit, you’ll also see the old bakeries and mills, which once allowed the monks to live self-sufficiently — a fascinating look into monastic life centuries ago.

 Lunch & Return to Hurghada

We finish the day with a tasty lunch at a local restaurant, then begin our journey back to Hurghada.

Estimated arrival time: around 5:00 PM.
