Introduction

Start your day with 04:00 hotel pickup for a comfortable desert drive (about 3 hours) to St. Anthony Monastery, where an optional 1,000‑step staircase leads to the hermit’s cave and panoramic views of the mountains, sea and desert. Continue through the valley of the Monastery of St. Paul, built over the cave of an early Christian hermit, then enjoy a local lunch before returning to your hotel in the afternoon.

St. Anthony Monastery Egypt and St. Paul Monastery Egypt - the itinerary
Luxreisen will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning around 04:00 AM. Enjoy a drive on newly built roads through the desert in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. After about a 3-hour drive we have already reached the Monastery of St. Anthony.

At this monastery, a hermit once lived in a cave on a 680-meter-high mountain. This was more than 1600 years ago. You can get to this cave via a staircase with 1000 steps.

In this cave you can admire the ancient drawings and writings of the hermit Anthony. From up there you also have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains, the sea, and the desert.

We then continue our journey through a rugged valley and reach the monastery of St. Paul. The monastery got its name from its location, as it was built over the cave of Paul, a Christian hermit. He died in the 4th century.

Following the visits to the Monastery of St. Anthony Egypt and the Monastery of St. Paul Egypt, we will take you to an authentic restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious local lunch.

After dinner we return to your hotel, reflecting on the impressions gained during the visits to the Coptic monasteries in Egypt.

We reach your hotel around 15:00 .
